Recipe: Chocolate Crunchies
CHOCOLATE CRUNCHIES BY LISA MORRIS
(makes 24 big square biscuits)
What you need:
- A large mixing bowl
- A small glass bowl
- A wooden or strong silicone spoon
- Measuring Cups
- Measuring Spoons
- A good baking tray
- Sharp knife (eg Victorinox paring knife)
Ingredients:
- 125g butter
- 2 Tablespoons golden syrup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup oats (not instant)
- 1 cup coconut
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 2 Tablespoons cocoa
- 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 2 Tablespoons hot water
Method:
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius
2. Spray a small baking tray with Spray ’n Cook.
3. In a large bowl, put the flour, sugar, oats, coconut, chocolate chips and cocoa.
4. Mix well.
5. On the stove in a small pot or in a small bowl in the microwave, melt the butter and
golden syrup and stir carefully.
6. In a smaller bowl, put the bicarbonate of soda with the water and stir together.
7. When the butter is melted, add the bicarbonate of soda mix to the butter.
(It will look like bubble bath when it mixes)
8. Add the butter mix carefully to the oats and stir all together.
9. Press into a greased baking tray
10. Bake for 20 minutes
11. Remove from oven
12. Cut into squares or fingers while soft — they crisp when cool
